All about the new “communities” feature

Google+ recently launched their new Communities feature, and it’s gone over quite well.  Here’s a bit about how it works:

Have you formed a Google+ community yet?  How’s it going so far?

Google+ getting a major visual overhaul

Google is in the process of rolling out a major update to Google+ and it looks amazing!  Here’s a video to show you what they’re doing:

In particular, they’ll be showing photos and videos in a larger format, adding a “ribbon” down the sidebar and making major changes to the profile pages.  It looks pretty awesome.

What do you think of the new look?

A ton of Google+ video tutorials to help you out

I’ve created quite a few video tutorials on Google+ over the past few months (along with a handful about other services such as Facebook and Twitter), so decided to put them all in one place for easy access —!

Of the 65 tutorials available at launch, nearly half are focused on Google+.  If you have questions about any aspect of Google+, hopefully you can find the answer there.  If not, please feel free to leave a comment below or contact us and we’ll certainly help you out.

We’re excited about the launch of this site, and hope that you find it to be a valuable tool.  Let us know what you think of it, and please offer suggestions for additional tutorials that we should add to the archive.  Thanks!

Video status updates arrive on Google+

Similar to the popular feature on YouTube, you can now record video directly from a Google+ status update.  Here’s how it looks:

It’s a cool feature, but I’m not sure I’d ever use it .  Will you?

Video tutorials for using Google+

If you or some of your friends/family need some help understanding some aspect of Google+, I’ve created 21 separate video tutorials to help explain some of the basics.

Here they are.  I hope they’re helpful to you!

If you can think of other topics that would be useful for me to cover, leave a comment and let me know.

Two great new Google+ features: real-time search and hashtag support

A couple of great new Google+ features were released today.

Real-time search

When you search for something, the results page will notify you of new results while you’re on it.  If you choose to display them, then the screen will automatically scroll as additional results come in.  As Vic mentions in the video below, this is a great feature when watching a TV show, following a sporting event, etc.

Improved support for hashtags

While Google still doesn’t recognize the hash symbol in search results (a search for “#tips” will return posts with “tips” or “#tips”), but now those hashtags are automatically linked in your posts.

Check out the video below for a quick tour of the new features.

The Gillmor Gang discusses Google+

Below is a nice discussion from the Gillmor Gang (Robert Scoble, John Borthwick, Kevin Marks, Steve Gillmor) of Google+ and it’s many features.  They all speak rather highly of the service, but also discuss ways that it can be improved.

It’s a great video, though it’s quite long (1:12:02). Run it on a secondary monitor/laptop and let it run, and you’ll gain some nice insights.
